How to Measure Your Range Hood Filter Correctly (Step-by-Step with Images)
When replacing your range hood filter, the most important step is to get the size right. Using the wrong measurements can result in a filter that doesn’t fit your hood. Here’s a simple, illustrated guide to help you measure your filter accurately.
1. Use the right tool
Choose a hard measuring tape (a metal tape is best) to ensure a straight line and avoid bending errors.
Tip: Always measure in millimeters (mm), not inches. Converting inches to mm can lead to inaccurate sizing.
2. Measure A – Filter Width
Measure the distance between the left and right edges of the filter. Record this as A.
(Example: Measuring A – Width)
3. Measure B – Filter Length
Measure the distance from the front to the back of the filter. Record this as B.
(Example: Measuring B – Length)
4. Measure C1 and C2 – Tabs Distance
Find the two metal tabs on the opposite side of the handle.
- C1: Distance between the inner sides of the tabs.
- C2: Distance between the outer sides of the tabs.
(Example: Measuring C1 – Inner Tabs Distance)
(Example: Measuring C2 – Outer Tabs Distance)
5. H – Standard Lock Tab Height
Most range hood filters have a standard lock tab height (H). In most cases, you don’t need to measure this unless your hood model is unusual.
(Example: Standard H Tab)
